The Northern Circuit Route is Kilimanjaro’s longest and most scenic trail, offering excellent acclimatization and a very high summit success rate. This 9-day trek takes you around the northern slopes of the mountain with fewer crowds, diverse landscapes, and sweeping views of Kenya and Tanzania. It’s the ultimate way to experience Africa’s tallest mountain and reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the “Roof of Africa.”
After registration at the park gate, begin trekking through dense rainforest with steep trails and lush vegetation. Arrive at Umbwe Camp for dinner and overnight.
Continue climbing steep ridges before emerging into moorland. Cross rocky terrain with stunning views of the southern glaciers and reach Barranco Camp.
Climb the famous Barranco Wall, an exhilarating scramble with panoramic views. Trek through alpine desert landscapes before arriving at Karanga Camp.
A short but steep hike takes you to Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit push. Rest, prepare gear, and sleep early.
Begin the summit attempt at midnight. Trek through switchbacks to Stella Point (5,739m) and then on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where climbers receive their summit certificates. Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
